The Wi-Fi module is fun and informative and highly recommended if you have or are willing to purchase the required hardware but is not part of the exam itself and if you really want to safe to skip.

The verification process took about a day after I uploaded the requested documents this was significantly longer than when I purchased the PTS course so I contacted support to check if they received my documentation and if everything was okay with my purchase. I think this is a good step working toward OSCP. While it is tempting to do the modules in order of appearance or follow the order in the syllabus, I recommend doing the modules in the following order to get the most out of the course. Looking at the syllabus I felt pretty confident I could jump in to this and invest a few hours a day learning their powerpoint style material and the videos at the end of each section drilling in everything you learnt in utter detail! I recommend reading and trying the solutions in the labs even if you solved the lab goal on your own as they can give you more insight and another perspective on how to solve the lab challenge.
In order to become OSCP certified you will need to do their PWK course and pass the exam, details on that are here. The course also has 12 labs.
I found it a good refresher and reminder that I want to continue digging into networking.

On August 12th, 2019 I began studying for the Penetration Testing Student (PTS) course and achieved the correlating eLearnSecurity Junior Penetration Tester (eJPT) certification on August 18th, 2019. eLearnSecurity takes the report very seriously, it is graded as part of the exam and can make or break your passing score. Is the course/cert combo a golden ticket? It gives you enough experience that once completed you can start jumping on the active boxes in HTB or smash your way through the labs/VM’s in Vulnhub. Several labs focus on techniques for privilege escalation, pivoting and pillaging.
If your already hacking things and know your way around enumeration a bit and can comfortably exploit things and get shellz then skip ELearn’s PTS and jump straight on to OSCP and start bashing away at that.
The time you spend in the labs is only counted if you have an active lab scenario running this means you do not have to worry about your purchased lab time ticking away if you are not spending time on the course. The pricing of the higher paid plans is a bit steep but the additional video content and labs are worth the price.
When you buy OSCP you will start it on the 2nd Sunday from the day you bought the course, I’m sure thats how it works.
EXAM TIME. Head over to their website and check out the courses they provide. Below is a map of their network, you will start in the “Student Labs, Public Network” and hack your way through and pivot your way to other networks with the goal being admin department! 3 Day Question based exam on domain network (more than enough time).
once in you’re faced with a big domain network and left to do what you want, you’re free to go explore and hack your way through their network as long as you follow a couple rules and respect others that might be using or have used a box. To pass the exam you have to reach a certain goal and find and document all vulnerabilities found along the way. and for those out there now doing your OSCP or eJPT exam then I say this to you! I’m looking at the Practical Network Defense and Penetration Testing Professional courses for the future. You get access to a subset of the slide material to see if you like the content. You will also find yourself in Exploit-DB a lot which is basically, in short, a library of exploits for all sorts of things!
I think I spent about 10-12 hours actively working on the exam. eLearnSecurity is a massive course that will give value for both Network and Web App Penetration testing.
I understand the decision to keep the focus light though since this is an intro course. The exam voucher included in this plan does not expire so if you want to take your time with the course materials this is the right plan for you.
Shortly after I completed the course and exam eLearnSecurity released the PTP v5, an update to the PTP v4 course materials. If you aren’t familiar with networking, it’s a lot to take in.
After completing my eLearnSecurity Junior Penetration Tester v3 (eJPT) exam I was eager to learn more about penetration testing and the penetration testing process and methodology. It will take you from an absolute n00bian and give you those foundations you will need to start enumerating shit and hacking things. So lets go in to that and talk differences about ELearnSecurity’s PTS (Penetration Testing Student) source and OSCP.
Honestly its a beginner course and it will deffo teach you everything you need to know in order to pass and get your feet wet in the real world! The PTP course is available in three plans, barebone, full and elite. The labs are awesome and honestly the best part of the entire course!
The plan comparison in this review is for the newer PTP v5 all other sections relate to the now deprecated PTP v4 course materials and exam. If you studied and understood the course materials and did all the labs those 7 days will be plenty of time to complete your penetration test, reach the exam goal and find a multitude of vulnerabilities along the way to include in your report.
